In the summer of 2008, I initiated a project to write a collaborative novel within one year starting on January 1st, 2009. The writers were to be as geographically and culturally diverse as possible and completely unknown to each other. The novel had to combine a powerful message of international significance with a riveting fictional story.
The year, and the five hundred page novel, concluded successfully on the last day of December 2009.
Around one hundred writers applied, twenty were selected, and eleven from around the world completed the entire year. Many others participated from as far afield as Alaska to Australia. Together, the writing group is known as ‘The Crew’ .
